[Also in Group XXXV] The level of a liquid is maintained between predetermined limits by means of a single capacitive probe, the effective value of which is changed at one of the predetermined levels so as to set the probe for controlling the other limit. As shown, the conducting probe 1 acts as a capacitance in one arm of a bridge fed with R.F. current. When the liquid reaches a predetermined high level the bridge is so far out of balance that relay 6 in the diagonal is operated. The relay inserts capacity 7 in parallel with the probe and switches on pump 15. Thus, as the level falls relay 6 remains operated until the low level is reached, when the bridge is insufficiently unbalanced to maintain the relay operated and it drops out, stopping pump 15. Capacity 13 may be switched in parallel with the probe by manually-operated switch 14 to simulate the arrival of the liquid at the higher level when it is actually at the lower. The bridge is then adjusted to ensure that the relay just operates.
