Abstract

Moulded laminated materials comprise lamin impregnated with products obtained from the reaction of mixtures of amino-triazines with paraformaldehyde and dihydric or trihydric alcohols at temperatures above 100 DEG C., the impregnated lamin being then pressed at pressures of less than 12 kg./cm.2. In the example a mixture of 126 parts by weight of melamine, 90 parts of paraformaldehyde, 124 parts of ethylene glycol and 30 parts by weight of toluene are dissolved while heating and stirring. The solution is subjected to azeotropic distillation in the presence of 2 parts by weight of borax until 21 parts by weight of water have been removed and the temperature has risen to 115 DEG C., when the reaction is interrupted by cooling. The product is dissolved in 315 parts by weight of 50% aqueous ethyl alcohol, and filtered. A sheet of cotton paper and a sheet of decorated paper are impregnated with this solution and dried. These two sheets are superimposed on a sheet of plywood, and the whole pressed for 20 minutes at 140 DEG C. and 10 kg./cm.2. Other polyhydric alcohols that may be used are butanediols, butenediols, glycerol and trimethylolpropane.
