Abstract
821,947. Rotary engines and compressors. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Dec. 19, 1955, No. 36292/55. Class 110 (2). The casing of a rotary compressor or engine of the intermeshing screw-type is composed of inner and outer linings 38, 20 which are interconnected together by a tongue-and-groove connection 52, 50 to form cooling spaces 82, 84 divided by ported partitions 80. Cooling medium is fed from an inlet 86 to a space 88 encircling the inlet 54 of the engine and thence through ports 92 and the partitions to the uppermost series of chambers 84 and the inner chambers 82, the coolant being discharged through the remaining chambers 84 to twin outlets. Cooling medium is also fed to a space 184 which surrounds the rotor shafts and a space 154 formed in one of the end walls. Each rotor is provided with peripherally spaced grooves 206, an annular groove 208, radial grooves (see Figs. 12...15, not shown), and passages such as 202, the rotor being suitably provided with guide means and vanes to move the coolant (see Fig. 8, not shown). The inlet 54 of the engine consists of three portions 114, 116, 118 and air of high pressure and temperature is admitted to the space between the portions 114, 116 prior to mixing with the working medium entering the rotors. The male rotor is driven at a speed 50% higher than that of the female rotor, the working medium outlet being inclined toward the female rotor (see Fig. 3, not shown), in order to smooth out the differences in velocities of the said medium issuing therefrom. The parts of the casing exposed to high temperatures are made of alloy steels whereas the rest of the casing is made of iron plate or low carbon steel.
