Abstract
821,806. Pipe joints. MANUS A. B. Feb. 21, 1958 [March 14, 1957] No. 5725/58. Class 99(1). In a coupling for connecting a branch pipe to a vacuum conduit 1 which includes a vacuum valve casing comprising two separable members one of which is permanently connected to the conduit and supports the valve body, while the other member is permanently connected to the branch conduit and acts as a control member for the valve, the casing member connected to the conduit consists of a tubular member 3 closed at the outer end thereof and formed with an external annular groove 4 of angular profile for the reception of an annular valve body 7 of elastic material, one side surface of the groove forming a seat for the valve body around at least one opening 5 communicating with the bore 6 of the member, and the other side surface of the groove being adapted to receive the valve body in the inactive position thereof. The valve casing member connected to the branch pipe comprises a sleeve 12 which is brought into telescopic engagement with the member 3 and is adapted to move the valve body from the active to the inactive position thereof and thereby causing the valve body to lock together the sleeve 12 and member 3. As shown, the coupling is used for connecting. an electrically driven pulsator 10 to the vacuum conduit of a stationary automatic milking plant and to an electric motor circuit. The valve body 7 is wedge-shaped in cross-section and the sleeve 12 is provided with an internal annular ridge 13, also wedge-shaped in cross-section for operating the valve body. A longitudinal slot or slots 8 are formed in the peripheral surface of the member 3 to provide communication between the opening 5 and the interior of the pulsator.
