[Also in Group VIII] A cash register, adding machine or accounting machine is provided with a plurality of punch bearing members adapted to cause a tape to be perforated in a single machine operation with a complete frame of coded data. General arrangement.-As described, a cash register, Fig. 1, comprises amount setting hand levers 14, the set-up amounts being visible through an aperture 17, and ledger number levers 16, the ledger number settings being visible at 18. Transaction details are printed by means not described, a ticket being issued via a shoot 19, and a detail strip being visible at 20. Depression of a motor bar 21 causes an electric motor to operate the printing and punching mechanism, and to open a cash drawer 9. Setting mechanism.-Values set by differential actuation of amount levers 22, 23, Fig. 2, connected to the hand levers 14 and the ledger number levers 16 are transferred to sixtytoothed gear-wheels 37 by intermediary gearing, each gear-wheel 37 being rigidly connected to a corresponding punch bearing disc 41. Punching discs and die.-The pence and farthing punching discs 41 each have twelve faces, only four faces of the farthings disc being used, the remaining discs 41 having ten faces. Each disc, Fig. 6, has on each face six holes 72 in five of which pins 73 are inserted in the required code combination, the remaining hole serving to retain a feed-hole pin 74. An " endof-frame " code symbol is punched by a member attached to the punching assembly framework and always aligned in punching position. The punching die 77, Fig. 10, has secured thereto at such a distance as to permit free passage of the tape 75, a stripper plate (not shown), and is adapted to be rocked at each machine operation by a bell-crank lever 85 which carries a roller (not shown) co-operating with a cam on a camshaft. Additional guiding and supporting means for the more fragile feed-hole pins 74 is provided by an apertured bar (not shown) secured to the die 77. Tape feeding mechanism.-An extension-piece 87 secured to a base-plate 78 carries a shaft 90 driven by a bevel gear. A gear 97, Fig. 13, mounted on the shaft 90 drives a pinion 101 fixedly mounted on a shaft 100 which also carries a roller 103 carrying feeding-pins cooperating with holes 110 in another roller 109 driven by an integral pinion 108 meshing with a pinion 102 carried by the shaft 100, the tape 75 being fed between the rollers 103, 109 and urged towards the roller 103 by a spring-biased guideplate (not shown). Manual rotation of a crank 116 counter-clockwise (Fig. 10) causes a downward extension 115 thereof similarly to rotate, the extension 115 co-operating with a cam slot in a support-plate 106, Fig. 13, which therefore rotates slightly to separate the rollers 103, 109 enabling a new length of tape to be threaded through when required. Tape is fed from a supply roll 122, the tape passing between rubbercovered guide rollers 126, 128, the roller 128 being urged by a spring 131 to press the tape 75 against the roller 126, which is driven by a chain drive 137 from a gear 98 attached to the shaft 90. After punching, the tape is guided to a circular receiving plate (not shown) mounted on a pulley driven by an endless coil-spring 136. Means comprising a slide having an aperture co-operating with studs on the gear-wheel 98 are provided for maintaining the shaft 90 in position during the punching operation (Fig. 9, not shown). A confetti box may be sprung in an aperture 166, Fig. 10, to receive the punchings from the tape 75.
