[Class 106 (i).] In selective-printing mechanism for calculating-machines, particularly record-controlled tabulating-machines, comprising a series of rotatable supports each carrying a number of type-members, means co-operating directly or indirectly with the type-members causes the types to effect impression by rolling over the paper. The mechanism may be associated with a total-printing arrangement. In the apparatus shown in the Figure, a rotary disc 58, forming one of a series, carries pivoted type-members 42 having types 61 for printing on a web 56 running over a platen roller 55, or a flat platen backed by springs. Segments 41 on the typemembers are geared by pinions 40 to pinions 39 on stop-arms 34 pivoted on the disc and cooperating with a stop-lever 33 which is normally retained by a projection 97 on a lever 32 connected to the armature 45 of a magnet 44. When a perforation in a record card passes the contacts, the magnet is energized and the stop-lever is released, and is moved by a spring 96 into the path of one of the stoparms, the associated type-member being thereby caused to roll over the web and effect impression. The active stop-arm moves the stoplever out of the path of the subsequent stoparms, a latch 37 retaining the stop-lever. At the end of the cycle the latch is released by means of a rotary cam 38. Springs 35 hold the type-members and stop-arms in normal position. In an alternative arrangement, the typemembers have lugs for directly engaging the stop-lever, the stop-arms and gearing being dispensed with. The apparatus may include counting-wheels controlled by magnets in circuit with the magnets 44, and associated with means for printing totals. For this purpose, each counting-wheel is provided with a stepped cam 15 co-operating with a feeling- lever 16 which co-operates with a stepped cam 11 and carries contacts 75, 76 in circuit with the magnets 44. At total-taking the shaft 17 of the cam 11 is coupled to the shaft 60 of the discs 58, and a cam 25 permits springs 26 to advance the feeling-levers into positions determined by the cams 15. When the type-members corresponding to the active steps on the cams 15 are approaching the printing line, the cams 11 close the associated contacts, and the stoplevers 33 are thereupon released to initiate total-printing.
