Class 103(2) A motor vehicle having a frame 4, Fig. 1, and a body 1 is provided at each end with a bumper 2 in the form of a short tube of elongated e.g. oval cross-section. as shown in Fig. 3. The bumpers are slidable in apertures at the front and rear of the body 1 and the front bumper bears against the frame 4 through springs 3, whilst the rear bumper slides on the frame, through the medium of blocks 8, against the urge of springs 7. The front bumper surrounds the front lights 5 and radiator 6 whilst the rear bumper surrounds the rear lights 9, which may include traffic signals, and a number plate. If desired each bumper may consist of a number of juxtaposed tubes bearing independently against the vehicle or the tube may be subdivided into a number of panels. as described with reference to Figs. 5, 8 and 9 (not shown). The lights or traffic signals may be secured to or supported independently of the bumpers, which may be made of metal, synthetic plastic or rubber. In the embodiment of Fig. 17, the bumper 2 has a flange 18 enclosed by a ring 17 of rubber which bears against the vehicle body 1, the lamp 5 being secured to the bumper. In a further embodiment, Fig. 18, a ring of rubber 19 surrounds the outer edge of the bumper whilst the inner edge bears against a transverse wall 11 through a resilient bearing block 20 which also mounts the lighting device 5. If desired the bumpers may be carried by the frame through deformable distance members, as described with reference to Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown). Specification 746,166 is referred to.
