Abstract

821,237. Utilizing solar heat. HAMOETZA HAMADAIT, and TABOR, H. Z. Feb. 22, 1956 [March 25, 1955], No. 5534/56. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXXVI] A surface on which sunlight falls or is concentrated optically (and which passes heat to a liquid, such as water for generating steam, to a chemical reaction or to a device for producing electrically thermally) is a thin dark coating for absorbing light and passing heat to the heatreflective metal base on which the coating is formed. Various ways of producing the coating are described. Polished stainless steel is heated to form a dark oxide surface. A dark nickel layer is electrodeposited on bright silver or nickel, or a surface of silver, copper or of aluminium alloy or aluminium, e.g. on steel, is anodized (see Group XXXVI). The anodized surface may be treated with dye, with copper nitrate and potassium permanganate or, in the case of the silver or copper, with permanganate and caustic soda. Specifications 129,323 [Class 64(ii)] and 536,938 are referred to.
