Abstract

Coloured synthetic polyesters or polyamide fibres are made by adding a suspension of one or more finely divided heat and solvent stable phthalocyanine pigments in a water-miscible liquid aliphatic acid, mixing the suspension so obtained with water or an aqueous solution of the water-miscible liquid aliphatic acid, adding the precipitate of polyamide so obtained containing the pigment in a finely dispersed form to a synthetic polyamide or polyester prior to or after melting and subsequently spinning the molten synthetic polyamide or polyester. Specified phthalocyanine pigments are copper phthalocyanine and its nuclear chlorinated derivates. Specified polyamides are polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaprolactam. The specified polyester is polyethylene terephthalate. Spceified aliphatic acids are formic, acetic and propionic acid. In Examples (1) and (2), a suspension of a copper phalocyanine pigment in formic acid is added to a solution of polyhexamethylene adipamide in formic acid, the resultant precipitate of pigmented polyamide being filtered off, dried and mixed with: (1) small chips of polyhexamethylene adipamide, or (2) small chips of polyethylene terephthalate. In Example (3), a suspension of a copper phthalocyanine pigment in formic acid is added to a solution of polycaprolactam in formic acid, the resultant coloured precipitate being mixed with polyhexamethylene adipamide chips. The products of all the Examples are melted and spun into yarn. Specification 464,126, [Group IV], is referred to.
