[Also in Group XXVIII] In a method of manufacturing a composite pipe in which a fragile tubular lining 3, for example, of graphite, stoneware, ceramic or glass, is supported in a tubular metal casing 5, the lining is coated externally with an unset adhesive cement 4 and inserted into the casing which has an internal diameter greater than the external diameter of the coated liner, and the assembly is passed through a die 6 to contract the casing to leave a small clearance between the casing and lining. Finally the adhesive cement is caused or allowed to set. As shown, a steel tube is lined with graphite and the cement is a thermo-setting resin such as " Carbinert " H.E.4 (Registered Trade Mark).
