Abstract
820,713. Stretchers. STOLLENWERK, H., [trading as STOLLENWERK FABRIK FUR SANITATSAUSRUSTUNGEN]. Sept. 24, 1956, No. 29178/56. Class 108(1) The longitudinal bars 1 of a stretcher are each formed with a C- shaped profile as shown in Fig. 1, having a depression 7 provided with a narrow entrance slot 8 extending the whole length of the bar adapted to contain a beaded edge of the stretcher supporting fabric 11. Minor slots 12 contain the beaded edges of stretcher carrying straps 13 and strengthening depressions 16 are also provided. In a modification the C-shaped profile may be made in two parts welded together in overlapping relationship, and the C profiles may be strengthened by welding strips to the web 2 and to the parts 3 and 4 or strapping plates at intervals between the edges 5 and 6. The longitudinal bars 1 may be collapsed together by breaking hinged struts 23, 23<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, and each bar 1 may be subdivided along its length so that the stretcher may be folded in halves. The two parts 1, 1<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 10, of each length of longitudinal bar may be butted at 40. 41 and bolted together within a U-shaped shoe 36 fixed to and partly surrounding one end of the bar parts, the fixing bolt 37 passing upwardly through the part 1<SP>11</SP> and being releasably held in place by a spring pressed lever 38 pivoted on a bolt 39 fixed between upper cheeks on the shoe 36 Handles 28, Fig. 7, are fixed to spring pressed bolts 34 having square heads 33. In the operative position shown the square heads 33 engage in square holes in the longitudinals 1, but the handles may be swung through 180 degrees to lie within the profiles of the longitudinals 1 by pressing down and turning the bolt 34 and handle 28. and then when the handle has been swung to lie within the C profile, allowing the turned head 33 to re-enter the square hole. The canvas support 11 is in hook and eye connected halves separated by a slit extending obliquely across the stretcher.
