Abstract
515,119. Ambulance stretchers. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and WILLIAMS, D. L. H. May 24, 1938, No. 15498. [Class 108 (i)] A stretcher comprises a head or like support in the form of a sling which is maintained above the level of the canvas or like supporting web of the stretcher by means of stout members. The stretcher shown is similar to that described in Specification 488,908, and comprises side rails 10 spaced apart by knuckle-jointed transverse members carrying at the ends supporting feet 12, pins 13 which extend through transverse bushes in the rails 10 enabling the feet and transverse members to be removed from the rails. The rails are accommodated in tubular edge-pockets 15 of the web 14, holes 17 allowing the passage of the pins 13, the heads of which are engaged by tags 18 secured to tapes 19 sewn to the web, the pins thus being retained in engagement with the rails. The sling comprises a canvas band 20 secured at its extremities by sewing and by eyelets 21 to the undersurface of the web and maintained above the web by tubular metal struts 22, the upper end of each of which is cut away to provide lugs 23 to which a channelsection cross-member 24 riveted to the band 20 is pivoted at 25. A pin-fitting 27 at the lower end of each strut is adapted to engage one of a pair of the eyelets 21 in the web. Thus the struts can be removed from the eyelets and folded about the pivots 25. parallel to the web so that the stretcher can be rolled up for storage. The sling may be in the form of a continuous band to which the struts are attached and which is not permanently secured to the web. Alternatively, the struts may be attached to the web and recesses for the pins provided in the, band.
