Abstract

820,388. Winding webs. GILLETTHAON, ETABLISSEMENTS GILLET & FILS ET BLANCHISSERIE & TEINTURERIE DE THAON REUNIS. March 15,1957 [March 17, 1956], No. 8686/57. Class 100(1) A continuously operating web winding machine in which two winding drums, by which the web is wound successively into rolls, are disposed in series and in which a knife is movable between the cylinders for cutting the web between the cylinders, has a cradle for guiding the roll into contact with the second cylinder and arranged to be movable between a raised position in which a roll is formed and a lowered position in which a roll is discharged. As shown, winding drums 11, 12, are spaced apart with their axes parallel, the drum 12 being slightly below the drum 11. A magazine 20 for feeding empty rollers 18 comprises a guide rail 21 and a rocking loading device 23. A locking member 24 actuated by an electromagnet 27 is held in operative position by a spring 26. In operation, a fabric web 14 is wound on a roller 18 by contact with the drum 11. The ends of the roller 18 engage arms 31 when the roll being wound attains a certain diameter, thereby causing the actuation of a switch 33 which energizes an electromagnet 34 which momentarily lifts the arms 31, thereby allowing the roll 30 to roll, under gravity, along rail 29. The roll is received by a part 37 pivoted to a cradle 35 such that it is driven by the drum 12, the impact being absorbed by damping means 38. When the roll has reached a required diameter the operator closes a switch 51 (Fig. 7, not shown) which actuates the electromagnet 27, thus lifting the locking member 24 to permit a further roller 18 to roll down rail 21 into engagement with an abutment 28 on the rail 29 and the drum 11. Winding on the further roller commences after an electrically actuated valve, not shown, has been actuated to cut the web between the drums 11 and 12, the leading end of the cut web being wrapped about the further roller 18 by air supply means 17 and water sup- ply means 19. The electrically actuated valve is controlled by a feeler 49 actuated by passage of a seam in the web. The knife 15 actuates a switch 54 (Fig. 7, not shown) during its actuation, thereby energizing a motor, not shown, which drives a speed reduction gear 43. The reduction gear 43 lowers the cradle 35 to discharge the completed roll 30, the cradle 35 being returned to its initial position by manual actuation of a switch 55 (Fig. 7, not shown).
