Abstract

820,302. High-frequency discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 16, 1957 [Jan. 16, 1956; Oct. 15, 1956], Nos. 1484/56 and 31388/56. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] A window of insulating material in a waveguide for transmitting high frequency electrical oscillations, e.g. into the evacuated space of an electron accelerator, consists of a plate of synthetic corundum of single crystal form so orientated that the optic axis of the crystal is perpendicular to the direction of the electric vector of the mode in which the oscillations are transmitted. The optic axis may be perpendicular to the plane of the plate or in the same plane. The corundum plate may be in the form of a circular disc which is sealed in a metal cup as described in Specification 796,884. The second Provisional Specification also mentions the use of the window in connection with thermionic valves and T-R cells. Specification 820,301 also is referred to.
