Abstract

819,978. Roller bearings. STRANDGREN, C. B. Feb. 25, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 6193/57. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a roller bearing comprising ribbed rollers 19 disposed between and engaging an inner ribbed member 17 and outer ribbed members 5, 6, the ends of the rollers being provided with straight gear teeth 21, 22 engaging straight gear teeth 8, 11 on the outer members 5, 6, the profiles of the ribs of the rollers 19 and the outer members 5, 6 are formed of arcs of circles whose radii s, S are proportional to the number of ribs on the rollers 19 and the number of ribs on the outer members 5, 6 respectively. The ends of the rollers 19 are also provided with journal portions 23, 24 mounted in cage rings 25, 26 respectively. The ribs on the rollers 19 and members 5, 6 have the same angle of inclination p with respect to a radial plane whereas the ribs on the member 17 have an inclination q with respect thereto. The outer members 5, 6 are mounted in a cylindrical housing 1 having an annular end wall 2 at one end and a screwthreaded adjusting ring 13 at the opposite end. The ring 13 is adapted to be locked in position by tightening screws 15 which deform the slotted periphery of the ring 13. A resilient ring may be interposed between the ring 13 and the member 6 to take up play. In a modification, straight teeth 43 on the ends of rollers 36 mesh with straight teeth 44 provided on a screw 37, Fig. 7, the threads of the rollers 36 having the same inclination as the threaded portions 30, 31 of the screw 37. In this case, the rollers 36 participate in the longitudinal movements of the screw 37. The threaded portions 30, 31 are keyed to the screw 37 and their relative axial positions are adjustable by means of a nut 41 screwed on the end of the member 37.
