Abstract

819,700. Printing surfaces. DIXON & CO. Ltd.. L. S. Feb. 18, 1958, No. 5255/58. Class 100(2) A method of producing a stereotype matrix comprises applying a layer of cellulose wadding with or without a paper backing sheet over the whole of the back of a flong layer and then moulding and compacting the composite mass against a forme by the application of heat and pressure. When a backing sheet is used the cellulose wadding is pasted to the flong layer and the backing sheet is pasted to the cellulose wadding prior to the application of heat and pressure, the latter being applied through a perforated plate and including means for absorbing moisture exuded through the plate. The pressure may be about half a ton per square inch of forme and the temperature about 250‹F. The cellulose serves to fill in blank spaces or depressions in the back of the flong.
