Abstract

A method of moulding hollow elongated articles e.g. tubes, of polyethylene &c. comprises extruding the molten material and quenching it to a stable form and thereafter heating the external surface of the article to a temperature and for a sufficient time to relax the material to the substantially same extent as an annealed object of the same material. The method increases the strength of the article. The heating may be to a temperature sufficient to melt the external surface of the article and may be from 5 DEG C. to 10 DEG C. and up to 50 DEG C. above the melting point of the resin. Tables of heating times and temperatures are given showing the resulting increase in tensile strength. Specifications 471,590 [Group IV], 639,306 and 682,420 [both in Group IV(a)] are referred to.
