Abstract
819,226. Aircraft. ZBOROWSKI, H. P. G. A. R. VON. March 15, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 8554/57. Class 4. [Also in Group XXV] An aircraft has a tunnel shaped wing and propulsion means comprising an airscrew within the wing and a power plant mounted outside the wing by quick release fastenings, the drive from the power plant to the airscrew incorporating an easily disconnected coupling, so that the power plant may easily be separated from the aircraft. The aircraft shown has a cylindrical annular wing 1 with control surfaces 4, spaced from a concentric fuselage 2 by struts 3. Each of two diametrically opposite gas-turbines 6 is enclosed in a nacelle 7 secured to the exterior of the wing by two quick release fastenings 16 (see Group XXV), interconnected so that both operate together. The power take-off shaft 8 of each turbine drives through bevel gears 10, 11, and countershaft 13 having a universal joint 13a near the nacelle and a universal joint 13b near the gear box 9 driving contro-rotating propellers 5. Each countershaft is formed in splined telescopic sections, so that when the fastenings 16 are released, the nacelle together with the engine and gears 10, 11 can be withdrawn.
