Abstract

1298886 Rotorcraft CM ILINCHETA 16 April 1970 [17 April 1969] 18330/70 Heading B7W An aircraft comprises a two piece shaft 2a having at one end a variable pitch rotor 2 and at the other end a flywheel 5 which is adapted to be driven by a motor 7 on the ground and which is detached after take-off, the shaft 2a having upper and lower parts 2a<SP>1</SP>, 2a<SP>11</SP>, ro- tatable in opposite directions through, as shown, a bevelled gear arrangement 3. Pedals 6a or an internal combustion engine provide continuous drive to the shaft 2a and also by gears 3b, 4b to a propeller 4. During take-off the rotor 2 is driven, and for forward flight drive is also transmitted to the propeller 4 by a clutch 9. To assist take-off flaps 8, which otherwise act as wings, can be lowered through 90 degrees by means of bracing members 14 acting through slides 15.
