819,109. Screw and nut gearing. MULLARD Ltd. Sept. 6, 1957, No. 28208/57. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XL (a) and XL (b)] A mechanism for producing linear movement between a housing 3 and a rod 7 comprises a two-part rotary member 1, 2 screw-threaded into the upper part of the housing 3 and coupled by ball bearings 8 to transfer axial motion to the rod 7. Rotary motion of.the rod is prevented by stop pins 4 which engage slots 32 in the side of the housing. The two portions 1, 2 of the rotary member provide respectively upper and lower annular outer bearing surfaces 14, 21, the tightness of the bearing being determined by the setting of screws 13 connecting the two parts. A compressible fibre washer 5 or other resilient spacing member is interposed between the parts. The inner bearing surfaces 16, 26 are formed on a spindle 6 which is rigidly screwed into the end of the rod 7. A hexagon socket 12 or other form of connection is provided on the member 1.
