818,342. Granulating pitch. SIMONCARVES Ltd. (Otto & Co. G.m.b.H. Dr. C.). Nov. 10, 1955, No. 32157/55. Class 55 (2). In a process for granulating pitch, molten pitch supplied through line 1 to a distributing sieve 5 heated by coils 6 descends a tower 4 in thin streams meeting a rising current of cooling air, the velocity of which is greatest in the lower portions of the tower, granules of pitch solidified at least at their surfaces are removed by a conveyer 11. Cooling air is supplied through line 8 and nozzle 10 and conditions are adjusted so that the granules collecting at the base of the tower do not stick together. The conveyer 11 enables the granules to be further cooled or in a modification the granules may be entrained in a stream of cooling air and subsequently separated therefrom in a gravity separator.
