Abstract

818,013. Charging and discharging furnaces. OFU OFENBAU-UNION G.m.b.H. Oct. 19, 1956, No. 31921/56. Class 51 (2). In a continuous furnace for the heat treatment of piece goods or bulk material, trays 2 formed with trunnions 9 and 10 are pushed in turn by a ram 8 through the furnace and into an inverting member 11, which discharges the contents into a container 23, and dumps the trays upside down on to return rails 18. The trunnions 9 and 10 engage slots 14 in pivoted arms 12 forming part of the member 11. As the latter is swung into its lowest position, rods 16 suspended from said arms 12 strike stops 17, dislodging the tray on to the rails 18. A chain 20 engages the tray depositing in on platform 19, from which it is lifted by a crane 22 on to a loading platform 21. At the same time, doors 4 and 5 are lifted by mechanism 6 and 7 respectively, and the ram 8 pushes the row of trays forward. As the member 11 is swung away, the doors are closed. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the member 11 is also swung sideways, the return travel of the trays being below and to the side of, the furnace. A further modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), has a return shoot forming an extension of the rails 18, the trays first swinging about the rear trunnions 10, and then falling on to said shoot in an inverted position.
