Abstract

817,747. Pulse-correcting networks. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 20, 1957 [Aug. 23, 1956], No. 26278/57. Class 40(8). A network for reducing the amplitude of the pulse tail 10<SP>1</SP> of a pulse 10 comprises a series arrangement of two line sections 1, 2 of equal electrical length and characteristic impedance R 0 terminated at their input ends by resistances 3, 4 equal to R o and at their remote ends by finite resistances 5, 6 of values respectively R o <SP>2</SP>/R and R. The resistances 5, 6 may be variable, in which case they are ganged to preserve the relationship specified above. It is shown in the Specification that an input pulse 10, 101 applied across terminals 8, 9 produces across the resistance 4 an output pulse consisting of a non-delayed pulse 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and a delayed pulse 12, 121, adjustment of resistances 5, 6 enabling the delayed pulse to be made equal in amplitude and opposite in polarity to the pulse tail 11<SP>1</SP> of the non-delayed pulse. Hence the tail 131 of the resultant output pulse 13, 131 is substantially reduced. It is shown in the Specification that the network has a constant ohmic impedance R o provided that the relationship between the values of the resistance 5, 6 is maintained. A number of networks may be connected in cascade, the electrical length of the line sections in successive networks being chosen so that they produce delays equal to successive multiples of one half the duration of the input pulse. Specification 674,522 is referred to.
