Abstract

817,712. Internal shoe-drum brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Aug. 22, 1956 [Aug. 23, 1955], No. 24200/55. Class 103 (1). In an internal shoe-drum brake, a torquetaking anchorage and adjuster assembly 6 is secured to the back plate 1 of the brake and disposed between adjacent ends of two brake shoes 2, 3; the anchorage being formed from a sheet metal blank bent to a U-shape as shown in Fig. 4, the two ends 8, 9 of the U being welded to the back plate and at least one end of the anchorage being formed as an eye 11 to receive a screw and nut assembly 12, 13. An adjuster for only one shoe with respect to the anchorage is shown since the embodiment includes a mechanical floating actuating means (not shown) at the opposite ends of the shoes 2, 3. With fixed actuating means, however, the anchorage, with suitable modification, may be adapted to provide adjusters at the anchorage ends of both shoes. An aperture 16 is provided in the backing plate, normally closed by a rubber plug 17 which can be removed to allow the insertion of a tool to rotate the nut 13. The nut 13 is located in the adjusted position by a resilient finger 19 mounted on the anchorage 6 and engaging the teeth on the nut. Specification 731,007 is referred to.
