Abstract

817,610. Boring-heads. BEAVER TOOL & ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1958 [Feb. 13, 1957], No. 3760/58. Class 83 (3). A tool-holder 21, e.g. a boring-bar, has a socket 22 to receive a tool-unit consisting of a mounting-ring 23 locked against rotation by a pin 26 and a slot 27; a sleeve 30, screwing in ring 23 and engaging threads on a cutter-carrier 36, and a screw 50 screwing in the carrier to lock the unit in the socket. A washer 40, having serrations 42 engaging the holder and keyed at 38 to the carrier 36, prevents rotation of the carrier. The internal and external threads of sleeve 30 are of slightly different pitch so that rotation of the sleeve gives a fine adjustment of the carrier 36, as indicated by graduations on the end of the sleeve. In a modification, the sleeve 60, Fig. 4, has diametrically-aligned holes 62, containing cylinders 64 of resilient material frictionally engaging the threads of ring 23 and carrier 36, to resist undesired movement during handling whilst out of the holder 21.
