Abstract
817,467. Photo-electric detectors. RANK CINTEL Ltd. Sept. 8, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1954], No. 26145/34. Class 40 (3). Compensation for variations in background brightness is provided in a photo-electric system for detecting the passage of a projectile. Signals from a photo-cell 3 pass to two channels 5, 6, the channel 6 responding only to high-frequencies such as that produced by the passage of a projectile (e.g. 200 to 20,000 c/s.) and providing a positive output pulse to circuit 7, while channel 5 responds only to D.C. and very low frequencies (e.g. 0 to 0.5 c./s.) representing brightness variation and provides a negative bias for circuit 7 increasing with background brightness, whereby the output from circuit 7 is substantially independent of background brightness. As described, the H.F. channel may be an R.C. amplifier comprising two pentodes 25, 31 and the L.F. channel and output circuit may be cathode followers 22, 36, Fig. 2 (not shown).
