Abstract
1487586 Interference suppression in TV receivers; transistor absolute value amplifiers RCA CORPORATION 3 Dec 1974 [28 Dec 1973] 52205/74 Headings H4L and H3T In an amplitude modulation detector circuit (e.g. a synchronous detector in a T.V. receiver) which converts accompanying noise pulses 50 into two pulses 56, 57 of opposite polarity, the combined signal and converted noise is passed through a single channel in which one polarity is inverted to be the same as the other. This can ensure that both noise pulses are black-going. The conversion of bipolar signals to monopolar is effected by a transistor circuit (Fig. 2). Negative going signals at the input 212 are amplified normally but positive going signals cause the base-emitter path of transistor 201 to be forward biased so that the signals are passed to the base of 204 without inversion. The same effect is produced in Fig. 4, not shown, by a negative feedback differential amplifier having a reference voltage applied to the non-inverting input (3).
