Abstract
816,974. Washing granular materials. SPODIG, H. July 10. 1957, No. 21892/57. Class 82(2) Material is sorted according to density by being delivered an to a layer of magnetizable particles dispersed in a liquid, the layer being retained by an applied magnetic field. The heavy particles pass through, and the light particles float on, the magnetized layer. The magnetic field can change in intensity or -direction and more than one layer can be used. The buoyancy of the liquid can be increased by blowing in gas. In Fig. 4 two layers are used, the top one being stationary between magnets 6, 7 and the lower one pulsating due to the influence of movable magnets driven by crank wheels 13, 14. A magnetic shroud 12 completes the magnetic circuit. One or more magnetic bridges positioned between the magnetic poles and normal to the lines of force may be provided. A series of troughs 17, Fig. 6, may be provided with outlets 2 arranged and operating as described above.
