Abstract

816,844. Valves. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd. Oct. 23, 1956, No. 32335/56. Class]135. A valve for controlling the delivery of compressed gases comprises a shaped delivery duct 1 with an axially slidable conical obturating member 3 incorporating a venting member 19 displaceable against a spring 20, the force of which increases as the obturating member opens. The obturating member is..connected by spiders 10 at spaced points to an annulus, comprising a ring 11 having a flange 12 merging into a second flanged ring 13, 14 which forms a piston reciprocable cylinder, formed by annular ribs 6 and 7 on the valve casing 5; so that pressure gas, or the controlled gas, may be supplied to the cylinder through control port to move the obturating member to the open position against compression springs 18, effective between the housing and the annulus. Opening of the obturating member also increases the force of the spring 20 acting on the venting member 19, to close that member, if open, and. in the fully open position of the obturating member ring 11 of the annulus, co-operating with the body of the valve, closes the opening to the venting member. Damping may be provided at the end of each stroke of the obturating member by arranging for a volume of gas to be entrapped in the control cylinder and then allowing it to leak away.
