In a drawbench for tubes, guide or carrier tubes a are carried in brackets b secured to the links of a number of chains c spaced apart one behind the other in a horizontal direction and guided in fixed frames d to move the brackets and tubes in an upper straight line track for receiving tubes o to be drawn, after which the chains move the brackets and tubes in an arcuate path to a lower straight line track at the position where the drawing dies p are situated, the tubes being two or more in number at each position and suspended from the chains when the latter are in the upper track and supported above the chains when the latter are in the lower track. In operation the chains are moved by a motor g through sprocket gearing on a shaft f. An air cylinder i mounted on a plug stand k is used to move plug rods h into the tubes o before retracting them to the carrier tubes α. The chains then move the loaded plug rods to the lower track where another air cylinder is located below the cylinder i. Both the air cylinder pistons are then actuated, the plug rods being pushed forward to reload the upper rods with tubes and engage the tubes o on the lower rods in the dies. Alternatively the tubes o to be drawn may be independently fed to the plug rods in known manner as by two endless belts.
