Abstract

816,080. Cathode-ray tubes. COLE Ltd., E. K., and LEVI ,J. E. Nov. 25, 1957 [Nov. 24, 1956], No. 36007/56. Class 39(1). An assembly including an annular focussing magnet J, Fig. 1, is mounted concentrically around the neck A of a cathode-ray tube by means of bearing surfaces D, E, at each end of the assembly so that the assembly is entirely supported by the tube neck. As shown the surfaces D. E are constituted by conically tapered surfaces on split annular wedges, preferably of polythene, and by cooperating surfaces formed on the circular inner edges of washers K 1 , Kz forming the ends of the magnet assembly. The forward wedge D also serves to centre a scanning coil assembly F. The rearward wedge E has a peripheral surface around which a metal clip H is tighened to cause the wedge to grip the tube neck and may also be provided with a projection to mate in a recess in the magnet assembly to prevent accidental rotation. The magnet J is of ferromagnetic ferrite material and is clamped between the two dished washers K 1 , K 2 , the washer K 2 housing a tubular magnetic sleeve S whose position may be altered longitudinally in order to adjust the focussing by means of screwthreaded tube T passing through a captive nut W and riveted to a flange of the sleeve S, guide rods U 1 , U 2 being provided. The forward dished washer W, serves as a housing for an ion trap magnet (not shown) and for a picture centering magnet N secured to a non-ferrous sheet metal stamping which is adjustable relative to the washer W, in two transverse directions at rightangles to each other.
