816,064. Rotary meters. KNAUTH, B. A. April 18, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 11795/56. Class 110 (2). A fluid flowmeter for coupling into a conduit comprises a straight-through conduit portion and a lateral cavity 15 which sets up a vortex with flow as shown by the arrows, the rate of rotation of the vortex being proportional to the velocity of linear flow and being measured by means of a rotatable cage 16 with a number of blades 18 which follows the rotating fluid, the axis of rotation of the cage being a transverse tangent to the inner surface of the straightthrough portion of the conduit. The cage may operate a mechanical counter through a gear train to indicate total flow through the conduit, or alternatively a stroboscope may be used.
