Abstract

815,972. Pneumatic single-stroke apparatus. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Nov. 24, 1955 [April 28, 1955; May 13, 1955, Sept. 14, 1955], No. 33751/55. Class 8(2). A double-acting pneumatic jack comprises a piston 4, 5, Fig. 1, having extension sleeves 17, 18 adapted to enter chambers 25, 9 of reduced diameter at the ends of the cylinder 3 and said chambers are connected by ducts 26, 10 to a compressed air distributor 54, Fig. 7, which also connects through a duct 42 one or other of the chambers to an orifice 39 and a space 38 surrounding the piston rod 6 outbye a packing ring 35 therefor, whereby exhaust air is vented along the rod and through a filter 44 which not only retains dust but effects silencing. Needle valves 15, 31 restrict air exhausted near the end of a stroke from the main cylinder space and also from the cylinder space of reduced area. Alternatively restriction may be effected through the duct 42 by a valve 56 actuated by cams 59, 60 carried by a member 58 secured to the piston rod 6. In a further modification cushioning near the end of a stroke may be effected by lipped sealing rings 70, 71, Fig. 9, located in piston grooves 72, 73 allowing trapped air to gain access to an annular chamber 74 located between them.
