Abstract

A complex compound of a glycerine-di-fatty acid-phosphoric acid amino alcohol ester with a sugar is obtained by allowing the ester to act on a hot solution of the sugar in aqueous ethyl alcohol with stirring. The complex compound is not soluble in aqueous ethyl alcohol but forms therewith a stable emulsion. Grape sugar is the preferred sugar. A glycerine-1,2-di-fatty acid-3-phosphoric acid amino alcohol ester or a glycerine-1,3-di-fatty acid-2-phosphoric acid amino alcohol ester may be used and the fatty acid residues in these esters may be saturated or unsaturated and may contain 16 to 22 carbon atoms. In an example, a boiling 10 per cent aqueous solution of grape sugar is mixed with boiling 96 per cent aqueous ethyl alcohol while stirring and 1-palmityl-2-oleyl-glycerine-3-phosphoric acid b -amino ethyl ester or 1 - stearyl - 2 - oleyl - glycerine - 3 - phosphoric acid b -(hydroxy trimethyl ammonium)-ethyl ester or 1-palmityl-3-oleyl-2-phosphoric acid b -aminoethyl ester, the ester being first heated to about 40 DEG C., is added portionwise and slowly to the mixture with constant stirring, the temperature of the reaction mixture being kept at 82 DEG to 87 DEG C. The stirring is continued for another 4 minutes after the addition, a stable emulsion being obtained.ALSO:A therapeutic composition comprises an emulsion in aqueous ethyl alcohol of a complex compound of a glycerine-di-fatty acid-phosphoric acid amino alcohol ester with a sugar, said emulsion being obtained by allowing the ester to act on a hot solution of the sugar in aqueous ethyl alcohol with stirring (see Group IV (b)). Specified emulsions are those obtained by reacting a hot aqueous ethyl alcohol solution of grape sugar with 1-palmityl-2-oleyl-glycerine-3-phosphoric acid b -amino ethyl ester, 1 - stearyl - 2 - oleyl - glycerine - 3 - phosphoric acid b -(hydroxy trimethyl ammonium)-ethyl ester and 1-palmityl-3-oleyl-2-phosphoric acid b -aminoethyl ester respectively. The emulsions should preferably contain at least 10 per cent by weight of the complex compound and a sugar content of at least 6 per cent by weight.
