Abstract

815,011. Hinges and pivots. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1957 [Nov. 13, 1956], No. 34705/56. Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXII] A universal joint comprises a member 1 made of resilient material and having two pairs of spring arms, each pair being inwardly biased along a different one of two mutually per-' pendicular but non. intersecting axes, and two pivot members 3 each of which is mounted for rotation about the corresponding axis in bearings provided by one of the pairs of arms the spring pressure of which provides a frictional resistance of its rotation. The member 1 consists of an endless wire bent to form part-circular loops 2 which fit over the cylindrical ends 5 of the pivot members and bear against the sides 6 of projections 4 the ends of which are threaded for attachment e.g. to the parts of an electric light fitting. The ends 5 may have conical surfaces.
