Abstract

814,558. Extruding. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 24, 1956], No. 25936/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] A moulded glass lubricant for extruding metals is produced by compacting a mixture of powdered glass and a solution of sodium silicate to the required shape by means of only a light pressure and then passing carbon dioxide through the mixture. Shaping is effected in a die by hand pressure and the carbon dioxide is passed for about one minute at a flow rate of 2 litres/minute for 50 c.c.s of material. For higher strength, fine glass powder may then be added to fill the interstices of the moulded product.
