Abstract
814,290. Road vehicle spring suspensions. DELTA MOTOR RESEARCH Ltd. Nov. 22, 1956 [Aug. 22, 1955], No. 24167/55. Class 108(2) A road vehicle comprises a tubularframe 12, road wheels carried by the outer ends of beams 10, nested coaxial cylinders 18, 19, the axes of which are substantially parallel with the long axis of the frame 12, one cylinder 18 being rigidly secured to the frame and the other, 19, to a respective beam 10, and rubber in an annular space between the cylinders, the inner surface of the outer cylinder and the outer surface of the inner cylinder having a plurality of radial projections 28, 26, respectively, embedded in the rubber and overlapping. The projections 28 are carried by a liner 27 secured by pegs '29 and rivets 30 to the cylinder 18. The cylinder 18 may be rotated relative to the chassis frame to enable the rubber 31 to be prestressed and may be secured by a clamp 24, 25. The latter may be adjusted from the driver's cab by means of a suitable servo-mechanism. The projections 28 may be hollow so as to pass liquid or pneumatic coolant. For the same purpose the cylinder 18 may be formed with external ribs. In the front wheel suspension (Fig. 2, not shown); two cylinders 18 are disposed at the upper and lower ends of a. head 13 carried at each end of a transverse frame member secured at its midpoint to the chassis frame 12. Each beam corresponding to a respective cylinder 18 is coupled to respective ends of a king-pin carrying the road wheel.
