Abstract

814,057. Water-tube steam boilers. HUET, A. Aug. 15, 1957 [Sept. 20, 1956], No. 25820/57. Class 123(2) A water-tube steam generator heated by the coolant fluid from a nuclear reactor consists of an outer cylindrical casing a within which is coaxially disposed an inner tube b of circular cross-section. The coolant fluid flows through the annular space between the tube and casing over finned steam generating tubes c which extend between headers d, e the headers being respectively connected to ring headers, f, g. The header f is connected by a pipe i to an external drum j from which a downcomer k extends to connect with a feed supply pipe h leading to the lower header g. As shown in Fig. 1, the headers d, e are arranged radially about the tube b which has removable walls. The tubes c with their headers are prefabricated into sector-like groups. When a group of tubes a requires inspection or replacement it can be disconnected, moved into the tube b and lifted from the generator. In modifications, the central tube b is of square, rectangular or polygonal section and the tube groups are made to the appropriate size and section for easy removal into and through the central tube.
