Abstract
814,027. Mixing fluids in flow. SHELL RESEARCH Ltd. July 23, 1957 [Oct. 18, 1956], No. 31753/56. Class 86 In apparatus for filling liquid gas containers, in which the gas is fed through a discharge line controlled by a valve, means are provided for substantially instantaneously injecting a predetermined quantity of a second liquid into the line, on opening the valve, this means being automatically recharged when the valve is again closed. In the form described a gas cylinder 1 is filled through a valve 7 and is supported on a weighing machine provided with a device such that, when the correct weight of gas has been admitted, a vane 26c is lowered between nozzles 26a, 26b to cause a back pressure in a chamber 32d and raise a diaphragm 32a. This closes a valve 32b and opens a valve 32c which allows gas from line 27 to reach a line 35 and actuate a pneumatic relay 33 which controls a metering pump to inject the correct quantity of additive into the supply line. When the cylinder has been removed a bleed valve 37 is actuated to exhaust the chamber 32d to cause valve 32b to open and 32c to close while line 35 is also exhausted, through a bleed line 36, so that the relay 33 returns to its original state, thereby causing recharging of the metering pump.
