Abstract
813,675. Spinning. SCHMIDT, W., and HORMANN, E. Sept. 4, 1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No. 27954/57. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for progressively reducing, by means of a radially or radially and axially movable deforming roll, the diameter of tubes or hollow cylindrical bodies whilst heated by induction heating is characterized in that the inductor is constructed so that the part thereof that induces the effective heat in the work lies immediately adjacent the peripheral region of deformation and the inductor is shaped partly to surround the work remote from the deforming roll. A tube 1 is held in a gripper 2 and rotated and the deforming roll 3 is moved towards the tube and also axially thereof to taper the tube as shown in Fig. 1. The inductor 6 comprises a heat-inducing part 7 and magnetic yokes 9. Immediately behind the inductor is a bearing support 13. Back rolls 14 and 15 may be provided (Fig. 4) and the inductor shaped to embrace these rolls. The entire assembly is advanced in the axial direction and the tube reaches maximum temperature at the point where it emerges from the inductor. The deformation may be continued to form a conical tube or one end may be completely closed as is required in the making of cylinder bottoms or necks. In another embodiment the heating and deforming assembly remains stationary and the tube with its rotating gripper is advanced axially.
