Abstract

Thermoplastic material free from plasticizer, which does not spread rapidly to full roller width, is fed to a four roller calender as a sheet having a width at least 85 per cent. of the working breadth of the calender and is passed through at a speed of at least 15 metres per minute. The method is used for sheeting polyvinvyl cloride or polymers of other olefinic compounds with stabilizers, lubricants and filling or colouring material but no plasicizer. The material is advantageously fed immediately from the rolling mill to the calender without substantial loss of heat. The four calender rollers are disposed vertically above one another, following the milling rollers, all the rollers being provided with heating means.
