Abstract
813,550. Printing surfaces. HAWTHORN BAKER Ltd. July 3. 1957 [Aug. 9, 1956], No. 24451/56. Class 100(2) A printer's mounting block 6 is formed with one or more holes 5 running from top to bottom, each hole including two cylindrical portions of different diameters forming an annular shoulder at their junctions, and is such that the hole or hbles do not intersect the sides of the block so that type can be mounted right up to the sides of the block. The holes are provided with ledges inside the block for engagement by an edge 15 of a latching member 12 provided on the plate engaging hooks of known kind. These hooks are each provided with a plate engaging portion 8 and contain an internal screwthreaded member 10 adapted, when rotated, to bear on the member 12 to first position the edge 15 under a ledge in the hole 5 and then to rotate the hook about the pivot 17. The edge 14 engages the opposite side of the hole. The blocks 6, which may contain differing numbers of holes may be positioned in a chase 19 together with type 22. A plate 24 is shown mounted on one set of blocks and a further set of blocks is shown which forms a base for a plate to be mounted. The cellular blocks 23 are provided only around the outside of the base together with plain metallic members 26 of intermediate size, while the central portion of the base consists of metal components 27. The cellular blocks may be made of metal or plastic.
