Abstract

1,218,618. Compasses. BRODERNA KJELLSTROM A.B. July 22, 1968, No. 34830/68. Heading G1F. A magnetic compass includes a compass housing 3 mounted for rotation in a base member 4 and held therein by means of a lock ring 5, the base member 4 being releasably securable in an aperture in a base plate 1 by resilient hooks 7 thereon which engage in recesses 8 in the underside of the plate 1. Splines 6 locate the base member 4 and chamfers 9 adjacent the recesses 8 allow easy removal of the hooks 7 from engagement with the recesses. This arrangement allows the compass housing 3 and member 4 to be easily and replaceably mounted in different base plates. As an alternate to the arrangement shown the base member 4 may be secured in the plate 2 by a bayonet lock and the member 4 may be in two semi-circular halves, if desired.
