Abstract
813,508. Electric heating resistors. GOLDSTAUB, H. H. Nov. 22, 1956 [Aug. 29, 1955], No. 24778/55. Class 39(3) A flexible electric heater comprises two or more rows of insulating blocks 1 arranged in staggered relationship, each block having a pair of holes extending from one face to the opposite face and aligned holes of adjoining blocks forming passageways through which an electric heating element 9, e.g. a flexible resistance wire, is threaded back and forth across the rows. The ends 8 of the blocks are curved to permit relative movement when the blocks abut and the holes therein are larger than the diameter of the element to permit relative movement between the blocks and the element. Each block may also have a groove extending between the holes on one face to allow the element to lie flush with the outer faces of the blocks in the outside rows. In Fig. 5, spherical beads 25 are located between the faces of adjacent blocks and accommodated in part spherical sockets 26 which are formed by enlarging the mouths of the holes, each bead having a passage 27 through which the element is threaded. The element may be made of stranded wire, with or without insulation, or may comprise a plurality of individual wire lengths, e.g. U-shaped, connected together end to end, e.g. by soldering, spot welding or twisting them together.
