Abstract
813,385. Load-engaging devices. HEPPEN. STALL CO. Oct. 26, 1955 [June 10, 1955], No. 30620/55. Class 78 (4). A slide device 23, Fig. 1, is fitted to a lifting dog or other load-engaging device to prevent its damaging the load 13 which it handles. As illustrated the slide comprises a bed 35, Fig. 7, secured to the base 15, Fig. 1, of the lifting dog by countersunk screws passed through holes 40, Fig. 7, on which is mounted a slide 39 engaging the load and biased by a spring. The bed 35 is formed with chamfered shoulders 49 over which fits the slide 39 to which are secured liners 55 secured by countersunk screws and formed with grooves for receiving lubricant. The slide 39 is biased by a spring surrounding a rod 54 sliding in suitable lugs or blocks on the bed 35 and on slide 39, or by a pair of springs which bias the slide 39 to a central position. Four such devices are fitted to the base 15 of the dog for lifting coils shown in Fig. 1 but these may be replaced by a single slide device covering the whole of the base.
