812,946. Infra-red gas analysers. GRUBB PARSONS & CO. Ltd., Sir H. Oct. 29, 1957 [Nov. 14, 1956], No. 34781/56. Class 40 (3). In an infra-red gas analyser comprising a radiation source S, a beam splitter C, a rotary shutter F, absorption tubes D, E, filter tubes A, B and a detector G having receiving chambers Gl, G2 and a diaphragm condenser H, I between chambers G3, G4, signals from the condenser are applied to a motor N which through a worm P, cam Q, and lever L drives an optical attenuator T to effect a balance in the two radiation beams, the position of the cam Q as shown by a pointer W indicating the quantity of a given gas in a sample. The two gases to be detected are placed in the filter tubes A, B respectively and the sample to be tested and a non-absorbing gas are passed through the absorption tubes D, E respectively and then reversed to give two readings of the pointer W.
