Abstract
812,869. Portable drilling-machines. CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRO-MECHANIQUES DE SAINT-ETIENNE, ANCIENNE USINE WAGEOR. Oct. 28,1957 [Oct. 31,1956], No. 33507/57. Class 83 (3). A portable electric drilling-machine comprises a feed screw 26 and a nut 27, one of which is rotated by a main motor M1 rotating the drill 20 and the other of which is rotated by an auxiliary variable-speed motor M2 with two speed ranges. The speed ranges are obtained by providing the motor M2 with two stator windings having respectively four and six poles. Three windings may, however, be provided. The motor M2 is mounted at the rear of twin guides 10 which support the main motor M1, a fixed drill guide 21 and a movable guide 22. The motor M2 has a slip (15 per cent) greater than than that of the motor M1 (5 per cent) and is a squirrel-cage asynchronous motor. Associated with the machine is a control panel 32 having push buttons A-F and a control box 33 containing relays and contactors. The pushbuttons initiate stopping and starting of the motor M1 (A, B), reduction of drill-feed-speed, (C), stopping of drill feed, (D), reversal of drillfeed (E), and increase of drill-feed (F). Switches G, H on the guide members 10 limit forward and rearward travel. In operation, the button B is pressed to start the motor M1, the button C is pressed to start the motor M2 at a low speed and button F to increase the feed speed. The drill is then fed at a fast rate until the load on the motor M1 reaches a given value and an overload relay is actuated to cause the slow feed to again operate. The drill may then be reversed by pressure on the button E, causing the motor M2 to rotate at its high speed in the drill-withdrawing direction. The buttons D, A are then pressed to stop the motors M2, Ml.
