812,797. Knitting-machines; inspecting fabrics. MEINERS OPTICAL DEVICES Ltd. June 29, 1956 [July 7, 1955; Aug. 10, 1955], Nos. 19745/55 and 23058/55. Drawings to Specification. Classes 42 (2) and 74 (2). An illuminator directs a beam of light from a mercury vapour discharge lamp across the fabric as it is withdrawn from the needles of a flat bar machine, the beam of light being of short wavelength and lying not beyond the blue and blue-green ranges of the spectrum. A fault in the fabric resulting from a broken thread is thereby readily observed. The illuminator is mounted at one end of the needle bar such that its beam is directed along the line of needles and the fabric emitting from them. Specification 781,458, [Group IX], is referred to.
