Abstract

812,781. Sawtooth generator circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 28, 1956 [Dec. 31, 1955], No. 39451/56. Class 40 (6). In a sawtooth waveform generator the linearity of the sawtooth is improved by eliminating voltage peaks by means of a diode voltage-limiting circuit connected across at least part of the output transformer winding so that the diode conducts during the flyback period. The Figure shows a sawtooth deflection system for a cathode-ray tube 8 of a television receiver in which a sawtooth voltage waveform from a discharge tube V is applied via a transformer to deflecting coils 7. Lamination noise in the transformer and unwanted peaks in the sawtooth waveform are eliminated by damping circuits such as gas tubes 13 or 14 which may be connected across a special transformer winding 41 or by biased rectifier 15. The D.C. voltage from the rectifier 15 may be used as a D.C. supply for a non-loading part of the circuit, e.g. as a grid-bias supply. The glow from the gas tube may be used to indicate readiness of operation of the television set.
