Class 40(6) In a cathode-ray tube deflection system, ringing current in the deflection coils 12 is minimized by providing a counteracting voltage in series with the damping tube 14 by means not forming part of the output transformer 11. Fig. 1 shows two closely coupled coils 16, 17 connected in series with the damping diode 14 of a line timebase circuit. The secondary coil 17 provides an antiphased ringing voltage to minimize ringing current in the deflection coils 12. The coils 16, 17 are tuned by a capacitor 19 which provides a phase balance. Resistor 18 provides amplitude balance. In Fig. 2, the transformer 20 is made selfresonant at the ringing frequency and feeds an antiphased ringing voltage to the low potential end of the deflection coils 12. This is effective at the beginning of the scan, but the ringing is damped out by the resistors 23, 24 during the later part.
